3D PET CONCENTRATION DATA FOR MICROPOROUS KETTON LIMESTONE
======================================================================
Dataset description
-------------------
This dataset contains time-resolved three-dimensional PET measurements from
a single-phase solute-transport experiment through a microporous Ketton
Limestone core. The experiment was conducted at a volumetric flow rate of
10 mL min^-1. The deposited array contains the processed concentration fields
used for three-dimensional model--experiment comparisons. The associated
publication is linked to this repository.
The reported quantity is the total tracer concentration per unit total pore
volume, normalised by the injected tracer concentration, C0. Concentrations
are therefore expressed as C/C0. The dataset contains 19 PET frames. Each
frame has 22 x 41 x 22 voxels, comprising 22 x 22 transverse voxels and
41 axial slices.
Files
-----
PET_3D_concentration.mat
MATLAB data file containing the variable C3D.
PET_3D_selected_frame.m
Example MATLAB script for displaying a selected frame using the same
orientation, viewing angle, concentration range and colour map as the
manuscript figures.
Data structure
--------------
C3D has dimensions:
[frame, x, z, y] = [19, 22, 41, 22]
where x and y are the transverse directions and z is the longitudinal flow
direction. A single frame can be extracted in MATLAB using:
V = squeeze(C3D(selected_frame,:,:,:));
The PET voxel dimensions are:
x = 2.329 mm
z = 2.388 mm
y = 2.329 mm
The concentration values are dimensionless and represent total tracer
concentration per unit total pore volume, reported as C_t/C0.
Plotting the data
-----------------
The plotting script requires PATCH_3Darray.m, a third-party MATLAB function
developed by Adam Aitkenhead for rendering three-dimensional arrays as
coloured voxels. Download the function directly from MATLAB File Exchange:
https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/28497-plot-a-3d-array-using-patch/files/PATCH_3Darray/PATCH_3Darray.m
Copy PATCH_3Darray.m into the same working directory as
PET_3D_concentration.mat and PET_3D_selected_frame.m. Alternatively, add the
directory containing PATCH_3Darray.m to the MATLAB path. Then open the dataset
directory in MATLAB and run:
PET_3D_selected_frame
Choose the frame by changing the following line in the script:
selected_frame = 6; % choose 1--19
For visual consistency with the paper, the script:
* reorients the stored array to the manuscript plotting orientation;
* renders the data using PATCH_3Darray;
* applies the manuscript blue--white--red colour map;
* uses concentration limits of 0 to 0.15; and
* uses a viewing angle of 305 degrees azimuth and 30 degrees elevation.
Software
--------
The example script was tested using MATLAB R2023b. Voxel rendering requires
the externally available PATCH_3Darray function described above.
